Online Media and Business

Before the digital revolution access to large audiences was limited to a select few media outlets. Before the digital revolution the majority of the media consumed by the public was owned by companies such as newspapers, broadcasters, magazines and production houses.

Online media has changed the landscape of business. Anyone can now produce media and share it with an unlimited number of customers through a platform. Owned Media is the term used for this broadening of reach.

The ease of sharing and creating content can lead to issues. Internet memes, illegal song use, and popular Internet memes are all examples of how the absence of clear copyright laws makes it difficult to regulate online media.

In 2023, if a business produces and distributes its own media to customers on a list, it could be considered to be a “media company”. This definition expands beyond traditional media, such as TV and radio, to include businesses that produce and promote their own content such as podcasts, YouTube videos and electronic books. A digital media business’s objective is to engage their audience and build their brand through social media and word-of-mouth. Those goals can be achieved through paid ads on platforms like PPC, Facebook ads and Google Adwords. However it is true that effective social media marketing takes an extensive amount of time to be successful.
